HISTORY
INTEAL, a contemporary cultural monument, is the most classic cinema of Patras, located in the central pedestrian precinct of Saint Nicolas Street, daily crossing point for thousands of citizens of Patras but also visitors. Having started its operation in 1914, it was the first cinema of the city with an exclusively indoor movie theater and was associated with the expansion and flourishing of cinema in Patras, with particular sparkle during the era when avant premiers of films where a social event.

During its initial operation it accommodated a multi-theater. The movie theater was at the rear of the building while at the front section it accommodated some commercial stores. In 1939 it was reconstructed by the Armenian architect Nubar and constituted the biggest, most perfect and luxurious cinema in the province. This is the appearance it maintains until today.The giant industrial counter-attack of the cinemas, at the end of the 20th century, established requirements that the infrastructure of “INTEAL” was impossible to serve. Gradually it declined and yielded to the vigorous competition.

AT PRESENT

INTEAL targets the spirited public of the city, willing to experience new ideas and proposals with qualitative specifications and relevant philosophy. Among others, it aims to leave its mark in the cultural action and interaction of Patras’ citizens - but also the city itself - with the wider Greek and international environment. A multiple objective just like its activities! INTEAL introduces and presents to the wide and artistic public every form and type of art with a simple, approachable and at the same time integrated procedure.

THE VENUE

Today, INTEAL is a uniquely flexible multipurpose cultural and entertainment venue of 1,500 s.m., at the center of the town, in conformity with the modern European specifications, fit to entertain people of all ages. It is worth mentioning that it is provided with the necessary infrastructure offering easy access to people with kinetic difficulties.

The building has two levels:

First Floor

EVENTS HALL - CINEMA
(PERFORMANCES - PRESENTATIONS)

- modern technology equipment that includes projection and audio systems for film screenings

- theater equipment (dressing-rooms, stage, theatrical lighting, audio configuration) for theater, dance and music performances

- technological equipment (audiovisual means, high-definition projectors, translation center) satisfying conference and presentation requirements of pan-Hellenic and international range.

FOYER
Independent space for relaxation of the attendants, providing an ideal environment for special cultural meetings.

EXHIBITION AREA (first floor)
The layout of the aforementioned spaces provides the possibility to accommodate individual or team exhibitions.


Ground floor

CAFÉ – BAR – RESTAURANT
At the ground floor of INTEAL you can find the café-bar-restaurant, of art deco philosophy, harmonizing the entire historical culture of the particular building, dating from the 1914. Thence, the visitor is offered the chance to travel into the history of the city’s cinema, from the beginning of the previous century until today, through the enormous pictures of historical reference covering a great part of the hall. The café and the restaurant are independent of the events hall. At the same time, however, they provide the necessary support for holding conference lunches - coffee brakes etc.

EXHIBITION AREA
The exhibition area, 30m long, featuring painting, sculpture etc. exhibitions can be found on the ground floor. This particular area has the advantage of being visible to all visitors, dominating in the specific hall.
