Cultural Resistance

   In a successful and festive atmosphere, Patras International Film Festival & Culture - "13th International Panorama" ended on Saturday, 8th of October, organized by the non-profit organization "International Panorama of Independent Film and Video Creators" in collaboration with the Editorial Committee of the online magazine «Cineek magazine-online magazine of Alternative Culture», www.cineek.gr. The festival started on 1st of October 2010 and ended on 8th of October 2011 and it was held at the multipurpose, cultural and entertainment venue "IDEAL" in Patras.

   The evening included not only the prize award and special distinctions of the Film Festival but also those of the Photo Contest entitled "Click on the Pros and Cons of my hometown" for photographers of Patras.
Patras International Film Festival proves that there is continuity and consistency in the institution, providing a forum for free expression not only for young Greek people but also for foreign artists, without any exclusions and sectional interests. This effort is pioneer for our country, since it appears to be the only film festival in South Eastern Europe, without censorship and manipulation.
The screening room of IDEAL was crowded with an exquisite audience, directors and several representatives of local cultural organizations of Patras and personalities of the society of Patras.

The film screenings of the last section of "Cinema, the art of peace" ended at 8.30 in the evening and the audience had the opportunity to attend the play "Morning Crisis", a mix of theatrical and film art presented by the theatrical group Equus.

   Ms Fiorella Mastrokalou and Ms Olga Kyriakou, members of the Organizing Committee, welcomed not only all the people and institutions of Patras being at the awards ceremony but also those who supported the International Panorama, by saying "... the International Film Festival after eleven successive tournaments has become the International Film Festival & Culture making an effort to include other forms of artistic expression. The strong bonds of all the arts inevitably lead to the broadening of the cooperation between different artistic areas and therefore human beings. So this year, the theater, poetry, comic books and a theoretical lecture completed the contest and a photography exhibition was already a part of this festival. The Festival presented 161 films from 36 countries and or the 13th year connects the creator, the spectacle and the audience. Thanks to this festival we can feel the anxieties, aesthetic concerns of all the independent artists from different places of the world ..... "

Afterwards, on behalf of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Panagiotis Chionidis, welcomed the directors and the people.

Then, the members of the Judging Committee of the Photo Contest entitled "Click on the Pros and Cons of my hometown" Mrs Velegraki Antonia (philologist), Mrs. Nancy Crhistopoulou (actress) Mrs. Evi Mamidi (Fine artists), announced the rationale of their decision and they give the awards Christina Karantoni, Maria Arvanitopoulou Nikolaos Stergiopoulos and special mentions to Giannis Patronis and Nikos Christodoulopoulos. They give memorable awards to other participants: Kanelopoulou Maria, Nelli Rodi, Chara Kostopoulou, Ekaterini Tsirmpea, Antonia Koukouvelou

The hostess mentioned that all the photographic series, awarded and not awarded, will be presented in 38 cities of Greece.

Then, the members of the Judging Committee for the International competition mr Theodoros Konstatatos (journalist), Memos Christos (archeologist), and Chrisa Golfinopoulou (companies consulter) read their decision

- AWARD FOR THE BEST SHORT FILM is granted to «Leap in Time» by Andreas Reisenbauer, Austria, 8', 2009.
- AWARD FOR THE BEST ANIMATION is granted to «The freedom» by Artan Maku, Albania, 15' 10'' 2011.
- AWARD FOR THE BEST DOCUMENTARY is granted to «The Infinite Jest» by David Munoz, Spain, 18', 2010.
- AWARD FOR THE BEST VIDEO ART is granted to «The Art-Qaeda Project» by Wei-Ming Ho, Taiwan.
- AWARD FOR THE BEST VIDEO DANCE is granted to «Dream on me» by John Bush, U.S.A, 35' 2010.

DISTINCTIONS OF THE INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIVE SECTION
- - DISTINCTION FOR THE POETRY OF THE IMAGE is granted to «Black & White Rule» by Maya Zack, Israel, 17' 45'' 2011.
- DISTINCTION FOR DOCUMENTARY is granted to «The Micro Debt» by Tom Heinemann, Denmark 57', 2010.
- DISTINCTION FOR FURTHERING THE STRUGGLE FOR HUMAN RIGHTS for the film «Voices» Filiz Isik Bulut, Turkey, 19' 52' short film, 2009.
- DISTINCTION FOR THE SENSITIVITY TO THE PROBLEMS OF IMMIGRANTS for the film «Refugee» Nail Pelivan, Turkey, 25' short film,, 2011.
- DISTINCTION FOR THE MUSIC is granted to «Follow the Rainbow» by Chris Schepard, France, 5' 08'' short film, 2011.
- DISTINCTION FOR THE SENSITIVITY TO THE ECOLOGICAL PROBLEMS for the film «...a lot of things to bear...», Zoltan Csubrilo, Serbia, 27'documentary, 2010.

AWARDS OF GREEK COMPETITIVE SECTION
After the foreign awards the hostess of the ceremony called the Members for the Greek competion who they were: Mrs Stefanaki Aggeliki, Mrs Aggeliki Korompili and Mr Miltiadis Mpitis. They announced their philosophical thought about how they decided ant then they given their awards to :

• Special prize for presenting the folklore history of a place "Prident time" by Dimitris Giannikopoulos 58' doc. 2011.
• Special prize "urban environment"- eco culture "Patra, green city....Almost" by Panagiotis Fafoutis 45' doc. 2011.
• Special prize for the presentation of an original cultural experiment "Thessaloniki in a different way" by Christos Nikoleris 74' doc. 2010.
• Special distinction for student movie on ecological sensitivity "The flame of the earth" by Mpakastathis Athanasios 3' 20'' anim. 2011.
• Special distinction "new generation against social stereotypes" "Barriers" by Giorgos Tsirogiannis & Anastasia Mastrakouli 3' 43'' short film 2010.
• Special distinction for presenting the alienation in the modern way of life "Elevator" by Marianna Papakosta 5' short film 2010.
• Special distinction for the multiculturalism - integration in the social environment "Odysseas" by Vahagn Karapetyan

At the end of the ceremony, the Art Director of the International Film Festival and Culture, Mr. Panagiotis Chionidis stated that "... the outgoing municipal authority may did not have the political will to enact the film festival of Patras, but the citizens of Patras involved dynamically for another year .." He also stated that ".. the festival has a sensitivity towards social problems, ecology issues, solidarity, fair society and anti-racism making the step for free expression of young artists from around the world.."
